AMAC Chief Says ‘Drill, Drill, Drill’- Seniors are Hard Hit by Skyrocketing Gas Prices

BOHEMIA, NY, Mar 2 – “The steep hike in gas prices has all kinds of negative implications for the nation’s seniors.  But it seems President Obama doesn’t care who gets hurt this election year, as long as he appeases his ideological base of supporters and gets reelected,” according to Dan Weber, president and founder of the Association of Mature American Citizens [www.amac.us].

“It’s bad enough for those older Americans with jobs who need their cars to get to work.  It’s even worse for seniors on fixed incomes who have to pay more for their food because of higher transportation costs.”

Weber says he’s not blaming the president for causing the calamitous rise in fuel costs.  Rather, he says, he faults Mr. Obama for appearing to revel in the fact that the more people pay at the pump, the more support he might gain for his green energy agenda.

“The president says ‘Drill, Drill, Drill’ is a bumper sticker but his resort to mockery stems from the fact that he’s scared.  In particular, he’s afraid that his GOP challenger in November will expose his scheme to exploit the pain America feels due to unprecedented, excessively high gas prices in order to further his love affair with alternative sources of fuel and power.

“President Obama nixes the Keystone pipeline and imposes a moratorium on drilling and then says ‘it’s not my fault’ that gas prices are where they are.  Does this make sense?  I don’t think so.  We have more than enough oil reserves under our feet and off our shores to make us self-sufficient and able to stabilize prices at reasonably lower levels.  So, it turns out that the answer is, indeed, drill, drill, drill, especially in this day and age of cleaner extraction technologies.”

Weber points out that by simply announcing an aggressive, new initiative to significantly increase domestic production of oil and gas will be enough to begin reducing gas prices immediately.  “This is especially true since geologists are now convinced that the untapped American reserves of oil underground and offshore are far greater than imagined.  Wouldn’t it be great to be able to thumb our noses at unfriendly, foreign suppliers for the next century or so rather than having to bow to them.”

Obama knows that his opponent will to hold his feet to the fire on the issues that are important to the American people, and energy policies are at the top of the list.  And so he knows that he will be unable to hide the fact that he and his surrogates have been rooting for higher gas prices all along, Weber suggests.

“Perhaps the President Obama is counting on the fact that most people, mainly his base of far left supporters, won’t believe that a president would deliberately take measures that would help boost gas prices during hard economic times just to pursue an extremist energy agenda,” he asks.

“Perhaps he thinks that we’ll all forget that his hand-picked Energy Secretary, Stephen Chu, has already admitted that: ‘Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe’.”

As recently as February 29th, Secretary Chu went before Congress and confirmed to lawmakers that the administration’s policy is not focused on reducing gas prices but on promoting alternative energy sources.

ABOUT AMAC

The Association of Mature American Citizens [http://www.amac.us] is a vibrant, vital and conservative alternative to those traditional organizations, such as AARP, that dominate the choices for mature Americans who want a say in the future of the nation.  Where those other organizations may boast of their power to set the agendas for their memberships, AMAC takes its marching orders from its members.  We act and speak on their behalf, protecting their interests, and offering a conservative insight on how to best solve the problems they face today.

We sold our car and now we depend on others to get around. We refuse to pay these Obama caused prices.

  2. Peter Ivanchich says:

High energy prices are the stated objective of the Obama administration, as they state that high prices will result in less energy usage. High energy prices, together with the global warming hoax, is the means being used to intentionally destroy our economy. (Google Maurice Strong-He is the United Nations official that proposed that the developed nations are responsible for the worlds ills.) From this, UN officials came up with the global warming scam-what better way to destroy the economies of the developed nations. Yes, there is climate change. It is the result of cyclical solar activity. Chinese court astronomers knew this 5,000 years ago. (For more negative things the United Nations has in store for us, Google Agenda 21-it is already being implemented in this country.) Our politicians are traitors who have sold us out.

  3. Tim Campbell says:

While politicians deflect, defend and blame
and consumers grouse about Big Oil, large profits and offshore drilling, almost
no one is discussing what’s really happening to the price of gasoline at the
pump.Conventional wisdom is that gas prices are
shooting through the roof. But that’s not the case. In fact, gas prices are
right at their historical average.Gas prices are reflecting inflation. As I
have explained before, inflation is not rising prices. It is an increase in the
money supply. Rising prices are a product of inflation, and the increasing
numbers on the signs at gas stations are a reflection of inflation. Or, to put
it another way, they reflect a decrease in the value of the dollar. This is explained in detail at Forbes. But
following is a simple version.Since Jan. 1, 1971, the price of a barrel
of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil compared to gold has averaged 0.0602
ounces of gold per barrel. Gold is currently trading $1,789 per ounce, and WTI
is trading at $108 per barrel. That’s a ratio of 0.0603, and it’s right on the
statistical average. So who or what is to blame for “higher gas
prices?” Look no further than the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke (and Alan
Greenspan before him) and their money-printing policies.

    • Tim Campbell says:

You see, gas prices aren’t rising. The value of
those green slips of paper in your wallet is shrinking

  4. Phil Brown says:

As long as the oil companies are the major supporters of our presidential candidates, gas prices will never go back to the levels of the past “follow the money”. What other 100 year old industry has not made any major improvements in its product? What other industry has no competition – prices are regulated by the oil companies? Where are the patents to boost gas efficiency in automobiles? Finally, what other 100 year old industry has never lost money in any year? Start a federal investigation into the oil company pricing practices and watch the price of oil come down!

  5. Jim Kindle says:

In regards to gas prices and oil drilling. I just spoke to two people from N. Dak who told me there are around 400 wells pumping oil and they are drilling about one a day. Where is all this oil going?? We need to start using it for Americans. Lets face some facts Nixon started the big lie that we were running out of oil and every President Republican or Democrat has abetted that lie and did nothing to put an end to it. You should all note that every President had in his administration Council On Foreign Relations (CFR) members some up to 100%.
The goal of the CFR is to turn this country into a New World Order satellite under a socialistic rule (communism). Think I am wrong? Then take the time to check out the history and the goals of the CFR which no conservative media or talk show host will mention and the CFR is the major cause of the problems we are
facing today. So want to get gas prices down then start a national boycott and do not buy gas for a week or more. We have the power in our hands to force them to drop prices but instead we grip and complain. It is up to us any more as we cannot depend on the left wing power in our congress and the white house to serve us as the oath they took commands them to do. Wake up we do not have much time left!!!

  6. WW2 Marine Veteran says:

In all of my 87 years on this planet I have never seen it as bad as I see it today. Members of both major parties plus the Independents are so busy fighting one another that they don’t have time to pay attention to the needs of we common people. I thought that WW2 ended this nonsense but the current politicians are proving me wrong. When members of Congress opted to forgo our Social Security and Medicare systems for themselves in favor of their own system, they convinced me they no longer cared for our country. How much longer will we last as a nation?

  7. whmitty says:

Gasoline and diesel prices going up ultimately raise all prices since nothing goes anywhere without fuel. Once prices are raised they rarely come down as quickly as they went up. Four more years of this utopian and he shall have achieved his goal of making the United States a peer of the EU. A status which he has claimed to be his goal since his campaigning days in 2008. Let us hope he doesn’t push us in peerage with the 3rd World instead.

  8. Glenn Shannon says:

Gas prices went up in the Carter time when there was a gas shortage and gas lines. I see no gas shortage so prices really don’t make much sense. While Obama and all those who say we should be doing everything in the world to save fuel they are wasting it like no tomorrow. Obama himself likes to take Constance trips with his whole staff along with his wife. It sees like camp David is not good enough anymore

  9. roylyn says:

It’s past time that the American people stand up to this oral bowel movement and get rid of him. He is destroying our once proud country.

  10. John says:

When are we going to learn to look out for our citzens first and utilize all of our own energy. I guess the “Save The Planet people” have a lot of control over what this government does. I believe we should take care of our planet. However we should Worship Our Creator and not His Creation.

    • Lawrence says:

Yes, drill – drill – drill –But –——

      (1) With our oil being used for the U.S. first.

      (2) Then the (limited) excess sold outside the U.S. to the highest bidder.

      (3) Then a percentage of the profits from oil sales outside the U.S. used to promote
alternative energy by not by government but by private enterprises.

(With God’s blessings serving our country, so we can serve others)

  11. Jim says:

Oil is just a convenient Tar-Baby to keep America’s attention on a symptom instead of the problem (If you;re too young to remember the Uncle Remus story of Brer Fox and Brer Rabbit, find it online and read it – it’s not just a cute story).

It comes as a shock to most Americans when I tell them the true cost of gas today is LESS than it was 40 years ago. Maybe that shocks you too. How could anyone make such a claim?

I’m rounding a bit in what follows, but it will demonstrate the truth. In 1970 gasoline was about 25 cents a gallon. A silver dollar would buy about four gallons. Today that same silver dollar will buy about ten gallons (silver is about $35/ounce and gas is about $3.50 a gallon). In 1970 dollars, the cost of gasoline today is 10 cents/gallon (the price before LBJ’s “Great Society” was imposed on us).

The problem dear people is the Federal Reserve’s manipulation of the value of the monopoly money Congress forces us to use. Until that is dealt with, the inflation we are seeing will not go away. We must return to honest money or, as the scripture on which our Constitution is based calls it, just weights and measures.

Are there oil issues to be dealt with? Sure, and if we deal with them the true cost of oil products will decline even further. Should private industry seek cheaper and more efficient energy sources? Certainly, and it will if the government keeps its hands out of the private sector and lets American do what they use to do, innovate and produce.

I have geologist friends, and they tell me that, in spite of past conventional wisdom and present rhetoric to the contrary, scientists are now beginning to think that oil is a renewable resource because the old fossil fuel theory doesn’t make sense (it would have taken miles of organic matter covering the planet to produce the amount of oil already pumped).

So, let’s work on newer and better ways of doing things, but let’s put the bulls-eye on the Federal Reserve and Congress’ unwillingness to do the right thing. Of course, honest money means they don’t have pork to pass around to help get them elected and people would actually pay attention to what they say and do.

The next time you’re fuming at the gas pump, thank God for the folks who use their gifts to provide a much needed product at such a reasonable price, and ask for the courage and conviction to do the heavy lifting that is going to be required to force Congress to act in our interest instead of its own.

    • Frank says:

Jim: You sound like the guy that came to work one day sober and no one knew he drank.

    • Corky Chadderdon says:

Are you crazy? A dollar is still a dollar. If I take that silver dollar to the gas station, I will less than one third of a gallon. In 1970, which is the year I got my first driver’s license, I would have been able to purchase 3+ gallons of gas.

  12. Bob N says:

How about a working energy policy? I’m a little tired of the ‘I’m for everything mantra’. We’ve been talking about this since the 1970′s and no real progress has been made. Two things people should realize; higher gas prices benefit the oil companies And the government, in the form of taxes.

  13. Joe says:

We MUST Drill. This no drill policy driven by the small number of left thinking politicians has got to stop. We are in a VERY VERY serious financial crisis and we should be doing everything we can to maintain OUR country. We should cut back on aid to other countries until every American is fed. Prohibit imports from other nations and use home grown products until we can stand on our own.

This POTUS has made a total mess of this country we have to get rid of him and his failed policy’s.

  14. Maurice Bender says:

He accuses us of the theme, Drill, Drill, Drill. Maybe it is time for a planned response and give the slogan back to him and all; our elected officials. Add to it “Build, Build Build, the Pipeline”. Let America know who is standing in the way of getting our gas prices back to a reasonable level.

  15. Marie Fountain says:

I’m sick and tired of the government sticking its nose in people’s private business like the bill in Orange County, CA that says no Bible study is allowed in private homes. The government has become so self-absorbed, they don’t care about the “people” anymore. If you asked 95% of congressmen and women to go back to their regular jobs and pay for their insurance and retirement, they would think you’re crazy – that’s because they are not there for us. What a joke!

We should also use our natural resources as needed – not saying that we shouldn’t help other countries – just be self-sufficient when we can.

One last, but most important note, let’s get back to the basics of life and trust God to lead our country!

    God Bless you all!

  16. REBECCA SHORT says:

Oil company profits don’t seem to be negatively affected by “shortages”. They just raise the price at the pump. Dependence on foreign oil or our own corporations, the consumer is still paying.

  17. Robert Hirschmann says:

I don’t know how much oil there is in the USA but I do know that we are not utilizing what we do have. Due to our dictatorial president, with all his rules and moratoriums we cannot dig for the oil that is here. The highly educated Steven O says there is only 35-50 years of oil left. Does that include any pools that have not been found yet? If we OK’d the Keystone pipeline and drilled into untapped sources we could be oil rich and not dependent on the Arab countries for our energy supply. In the meantime we can still be exploring alternate energy.

This president wants to suddenly stop using oil and go to alternative fuels immediately! This is impossible as we are not ready for that yet. Who, in this economy, can afford to trade in his SUV for a hybrid immediately? I personally own a scooter. It was made in China (I wish the USA made them) and I get over 100 miles per gallon. I would rather have a car but I cannot afford the payments, insurance or registration fees. Also with gas prices rising rapidly I couldn’t afford to run it.

Also, with gas prices rising, so does the price of everything else. When the delivery trucks have to pay more at the pump they pass the increase on to their customers. We who live on a fixed income are the ones suffering the most. As it is right now, we are just making it on social security. I’m not so sure if we will in the future if prices for food and necessities go any higher.

    • Krapes1 says:

I retired in 2010. The seniors did not get a cost of living increase in their social security for a period of three years.
During this period, (last year and this year) workers who earn regular paychecks have been getting a break of not
having to pay into the SS program. Obumu says this will put money back into the economy. These workers are getting
their full paycheck and are living a lot easier than us who are on a small pension from SS. The people that need a break
are the Seniors who have worked the last forty some years paying the way in this country for programs like the Great Society and Medicaid and Food Stamps and extended unemployment benefits. The Seniors are going to be continued to be thrown under the Bus under this administration and others unless AMAC and its members start lobbying hard for us to get more money so we can put some back into the economy. We earned the right and deserve it. We need to lobby our representatives and President to help us with the high Gas Prices and the cost of living that will increase as a result of it. By the way, we need a new formula for cost of living increases because when you get one increase in three years something is not working. Private sector and Public sector employees are getting a minimum of 3 percent a year. I am sorry the SS program is financially strained with baby boomers but we put our money there faithfully over the last forty five years and it is not our fault that the Government raided our trust fund. We did our part, now it is time for the Government to do their part. We played by the rules, now we must make them play fair. Come on Seniors, our only power here is with our voting block, it is time to let them know we want our fairness also. Note to AMAC: This has to be your passion also because your competitor AARP is in bed with the politicians.

  18. Sam S. says:

Maybe we should look at the real reason Obama nixed the pipeline. So hi buddy Soros could make a killing hauling the oil with his trains.

    • Ray Mason says:

Yes our president gave a large chunk of our money to his buddies in South America, (hello Soros investments) to explore and drill for oil and at the same time refuses to issue permits for drilling and exploration in this country. He then assured them that we would be their best customers, after China of course. How do you spell traitor? Impeach, Impeach, Impeach!!!!

    • Texas Crude says:

You’re right. Except the friend is Buffet, not Soros.

  19. Pete C says:

    I’m tired….

I’m tired of having federal politicians tell ME what I should be doing.

I’m tired of having federal politicians tell ME what I am allowed to do.

I’m tired of having federal politicians tell ME what I can not do.

I’m tired of having federal politicians tell ME what morals to have and not to have.

I’m tired of a population sitting back and allowing it to happen.

Yes, Obama and his administration are some of the worst violators of imposing their will on us, but this tiredness I have has been going on for quite some time. How do we correct Washington at its core? Our biggest recourse is to vote and a close second to that is to be educated. The politicians know that the majority of this country does not vote and most of the population is trading education for ignorance. It’s obvious the population is equally tired. Quit being tired and start being active in correcting Washington.

I know this rant hasn’t been focused on the “oil” issue that this article was written about. However, the current administration has focused itself on not producing oil in this country and it has focused on diminishing the oil production in this country. Add to that, this administration STOLE money out of our pockets in excess of 2.5 BILLION dollars to give to “green” companies that have gone belly up, and our country still has a 50% approval rating of the current POTUS. WAKE UP America!!!

  20. Bob B says:

Obama says Drilling won’t help. Then how come the Price of Natural Gas has just gone to less then $6.00 per 1000 cubic feet in parts of Pennsylvania. 4 years ago it was $18.00 per 1000 cubic Feet.

  21. Paul says:

in my honest opinion I think all the politicians should be fired and made to live like us ” the tax payers”
then maybe they will understand just how hard it is to live on a fixed income.

  22. Doug says:

The technology is not there to replace fuel, someday maybe but not now. It is easy for the President to say well just get rid of your cars that are gas hogs. That would be easy if we all had an extra 30,000 in the bank. It is time to move this guy out that has never had a real job and has no clue what a working person goes through to get by.

  23. Ray Mason says:

Oh I’m sorrry Steven, I didn’t realize that you are an educated person and we should all bow in your presence, (maybe Obama will bow to you someday).

  24. PitbullDad says:

Until alternative “green” energy sources prove that they can provide a positive return on investment, it makes sense in the near term (few years) to continue to develop resources we already have in a responsible manner. So far, I don’t think there has been one success story (profitable) in alternative “green” energy. If so, please cite it.

Current Administration policy has undermined current energy sources in favor of alternative energy, and those investments — maybe a dozen major ones — have failed in spite of stimulus funding.

  25. Howard Hacker says:

You can say whatever you want. This President does not care. He wants higher gas prices. He wants misery. He hates this country and wants to preside over its demise.

    • Ray Mason says:

Howard, I agree 100%. A guest on FOX last night said that Obama was such a sorry president that even the Kenyans were claiming that he was born in the USA.

  26. Wanda says:

    Hey Steve
WOW, that’s a lot of name calling and venom for someone who goes to church!
You’ve obviously missed the part about “Love thy Neighbor”.

The high price of fuel has driven up prices of heating oil, food, and everything else in the marketplace.
This increase in the cost of living has made it hard on everyone. We are all frustrated but we need to direct our anger at the source of the problem. It is the Obama policies and the Senators in Washington who have for years been directing our economy down this path of destruction.
I would suggest that you get out and vote. In my mind these old familiar faces are the problem.
    Vent your frustration- Vote….

PEOPLE WITH SUV’S ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE PROBLEMS!
America is the land of the free. And we should be free to drive whatever vehicle fits our needs and to “bitch and moan” as YOU and your neighbors are doing.
Just don’t be in such a hurry to throw away your rights. The next thing the government goes after may be of value to you……..
    God Bless !

  27. Pete C says:

Why would any family in China need a 10 person mini-van when their government has a limit on how many children they are allowed to have??? ONE

I’m sure we’d all like a government telling us how many children we should have…. shoot, if they told us to have only one child we could be all forced to drive motorcycles with sidecars… wooo hoooo 50 mpg for every family.

Don’t ever compare the Land of the Free to the Communist nation of China.

  28. Ray Mason says:

Ok Steven, so give me 35-50 years of drill baby drill. We have other resources available, such as the Canadian pipeline, natural gas, clean coal technology etc. As we “drill baby drill”, we can “develop, develop, develop, other energy sources. Do you think that the presidents pond scum will be ready to fuel anything anytime soon?

  29. Ray Mason says:

    Thank You Wanda!!!

  30. Glenn Shannon says:

Steven O before there was a set government wage we did just fine in this country. One of the big problems is all the illegals that have come into this country flooding the labor market. In 1973 I was in charge of sound systems when Metro Center was being built. At that time the construction workers were making $20 an hour. Today thanks to the illegals taking over that industry the wage is $10 an hour. So from 1973 to today the wages dropped in half, so yes it is now another job Americans don’t want to do as the wages have dropped too low. That is not counting the jobs that are being paid under the table that drops the wages even lower. Another fact is that since welfare pays a lot more than you can get working many think why bother.

  31. Pete C. says:

Steven O., Actually I do NOT want the Feds telling me how much I can make nor do I want them to tell me how much I have to pay someone, nor do I want them telling you and everyone else in this country the same. People seem to forget about the 10th amendment which states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

When are the people going to take back this nation and quit giving so much power to the Feds. I certainly do NOT want the Feds stealing my hard earned money and yours and the rest of the citizen’s money and give it to CEO’s of “green” companies, whether they can make that company run or not. It should not be in the Feds power to be able to tax OUR wages and GIVE it to ANY company. This is complete lunacy!

  32. Steven says:

Correction. Make the censor, not sensor.

  33. beenthere says:

You are just boring. And tiring. Please leave.

  34. Wayne Spaulding says:

You are only listening to what the left has to say, led by the President. Let me tell you something sir. They speak with forked tongue. In other words sir they do not tell you the truth and you only listen to one side of the story.
Contrary to the Presidents recent statement that “there is no quick fix to high gas prices and the nation cannot drill its way out of the problem,” he is not telling the truth.
There is an immediate solution to this problem. According to The Heritage Association he can “end the de facto moratorium on drilling, open offshore areas that are off-limits to drilling, place a 270-day limit on environmental reviews for energy projects on federal lands, remove regulatory delays, and approve Keystone”.
If he does all these things now the price of gas will be well on its way to less then $2.00/gallon by Election Day. If he does nothing it will be difficult for those of us who aren’t in the 1% of the population to have enough gas in our car to get to the polling place in our community and if we do get there we sure as hell will not vote for him regardless of who his opponent is.

  35. beenthere says:

Steve: You are on the wrong site…we don’t want your lies here. We are sick of them.

  36. Barbara says:

It’s about time you stop blaming Bush. The only thing Obama has done is kick the can down the road. He is leading from behind. McArthur once said, ” You can pull a string, not push it”. The President is afraid to make a decision on his down. He always makes sure he has someone to push under the bus. He is punishing the military and seniors for his bad economic policy! His hope and change is a myth!

  37. Ben says:

Just how can you even think of giving him a ” pass ” on this one? What happened in the previoius administration was accomplished under a complete DEMOCRATIC RULE. Presidents don’t spend nor make laws. Congress is your culprit and most of all Mr. Dodd and Mr.,Miss., Mrs., or Miz. Barnie Frank are th two greatest villans that this country has ever had after Mr. T. Kennedy. As for the unemployment statistics that you quote, you are correct when you state that the percentage isn’t 30%. There are more than 17.5% total unemployed workers that your wonder boy only claims 8.1% of that with the complicity of the liberal press( or is it the communist press ) and only a MERE 47% of the rest of the citizens on some kind of Washington dole. What is the percentage of that. Now he even included cell phones with 200 FREE minutes to his list for his constituants to use to conduct illicit business at the expense of every working man and woman including, as you say ” most of you are no longer working anyway” but still pay taxes just as every one that works. If you are on the dole from Washington you most definately have nothing to worry about because it’ll be confiscated from us. Yes, how about the bankrupt auto industry? What IS the cause of them being bankrupt? Is it NOT Washington and their misguided strangulating legislations and corrupt senators and representatives that are bought by the UNIONS as is Barry boy? And please, do leave AMAC and crawl in bed with your AARP buddies that lied to the seniors about the benefits not being curtailed or reduced and the cost of our medical insurance premiums reduced and then they had to increase the premiums on their own participants. Further more, if your guy gets in once again, you won’t have any worries any more about you your medical insurance because all of the garbage that is in this bill will be out in the open in 2014 AFTER he gets RE-ELECTED. Did you ever stop to question WHY his plan is to be introduced AFTER the election and WHY the bill HAD to be signed BEFORE it was allowed to be read? Thank you for allowing me to vent. Ben. PS. There was a great English man by the name of Sir Winston Churchill, I don’t know if you even ever heard of him, he said that ” Any one over 20 years of age who isn’t a Liberal doesn’t have a heart, and any one over 40 years old who isn’t a conservative doesn’t have a brain “

  38. Shikito says:
